Your trips normally live only in this browser. Sync gives you a code that keeps this device and your others up to date with each other — no account, no email.
Anyone with the code can read and change these lists, so treat it like a password.
Already have a code from another device?
Scan from another device's camera — or send it the link — and it joins this code, synced both ways. Treat both like a password.
Keep a copy somewhere that is not this device. If this phone is ever lost or dies, the code is the only way back to your lists.
A view link shows the current trip to anyone who has it — read-only, and live: your edits appear to them within seconds. Good for shakedown posts and sharing with a walking partner. It reveals nothing that allows editing.
Anyone with this link sees this trip, read-only, always current:
The starter-list gallery is a page of real packing lists anyone can copy and make their own. A human reviews every suggestion; if accepted, a frozen copy of this trip — exactly as it is right now — goes up. You can send a newer version or take it down again any time from here.
Nothing else is shared — not your other trips, not your sync code. Skipped items stay out. You will hear back here in the app once it is reviewed.
They see the list first, then choose to save their own copy — they can't see or change your lists, and their edits stay theirs. Sharing again refreshes this same link; it works for about a year.
Every item across all your trips. Edit a weight, name, description or URL here and it updates in every trip that has it. “+ Add” puts it in the current trip, in the category it usually lives in — or asks, if this trip has no such category.
Base weight is everything in your pack minus consumables, with worn items excluded. The hiking community sorts base weights into rough classes:
Superultralight (SUL) — under 2.3 kg / 5 lb. Expert territory; skills replace gear.
Ultralight (UL) — under 4.5 kg / 10 lb. Deliberate system design; the r/Ultralight benchmark.
Lightweight — under 9 kg / 20 lb. Modern gear, no extreme choices.
Traditional — over 9 kg / 20 lb. Comfort-first kits; most people start here.
Treat them as mile markers, not moral categories — the right pack is the lightest one that safely handles your conditions.
A summary card shows the description, the weights and each category subtotal — sized for chat threads. The full list includes every item and can get tall.
Shows on the summary, in shared views, exports and the gallery. A few lines is plenty: what the trip is, what is deliberately left out, what you are still deciding.

Paste the share link of a LighterPack list (it looks like lighterpack.com/r/abc123). Every item comes across with its weight, category and worn / consumable tags.
If it is your own list, its items join your gear locker and show up as suggestions. If it is someone else's, they stay separate until you edit an item — handy for studying a shakedown or a friend's list.
