Terms of use

The rules for using Tumpline, in plain words. There is no account to agree to anything with, so this page simply describes the deal: what you can expect from us, and what we ask of you.

The short version: your lists are yours. Only share or publish lists you have the right to share. Tumpline is a free planning tool offered as-is — weigh your own pack and use your own judgment on the trail.

Who runs this

Tumpline is made and run by Ken Walker at Precambrian Software, an Ontario, Canada company. Questions, problems, takedown requests: hello@tumpline.app — Ken will read it.

Your lists are yours

Everything you type into Tumpline belongs to you. When you create a sync code or a share link, you give us the technical permission we need to store that data and show it to whoever holds the code or link — that is the only permission we take, and it ends when you delete the synced copy, revoke the link, or the record expires. Sharing a list means anyone with the link can read it and save their own copy to build on; that is what sharing is for.

The public gallery

Suggesting a list for the starter gallery is asking us to publish a frozen copy of it for anyone to view and reuse. Only suggest lists you made yourself or otherwise have the right to share, and keep any “based on” credit honest. A person reviews every suggestion before it appears; we can decline or remove a list from the gallery at our discretion, and you can withdraw yours at any time from the share menu. If a gallery list contains something of yours that should not be there, write to us and we will deal with it.

Do not misuse it

Do not put unlawful content into shared lists or the gallery, use share links to spam or mislead people, hammer or scrape the server, or try to guess your way into other people’s sync codes. Codes and links involved in abuse can be revoked. Tumpline runs on a very small server with a very small operator — please be kind to both.

A planning tool, not gear

Weights in Tumpline are estimates — manufacturer specs, catalog entries, and whatever you or other users typed in. Treat every number as a starting point, verify anything that matters on your own scale, and make your own calls about what to bring. Tumpline helps you think about your pack; it is not safety advice, and what happens on your trip is your responsibility.

As-is, no promises

Tumpline is free and run in spare time. There is no uptime guarantee and no warranty of any kind. Export lists that matter to you (CSV, from the share menu) and keep your own copies. To the fullest extent the law allows, Precambrian Software is not liable for damages arising from your use of Tumpline — including lost data and anything that happens on a trip you packed for with it.
